Fantasy Draft Formats Explained

The draft format changes how players or drivers are allocated and how much control managers have over roster construction.

Snake draft

The draft order reverses each round. If the first round is 1 through 10, the second round runs 10 through 1. Snake is simple and familiar.

Linear draft

The same order repeats every round. This is common in rookie or prospect drafts where draft position is meant to preserve a stronger advantage.

Auction draft

Managers bid from a defined budget rather than waiting for a fixed pick. Auction gives every manager a chance to pursue any available player or driver.

Which format should you use?

Snake works well for most redraft leagues. Linear is useful when draft position should remain meaningful across rounds. Auction is best for groups that want maximum roster-building control.

Commissioner settings

Available draft formats vary by sport and entitlement. Use the league setup flow and sport rules to confirm what is supported.
